We Do Not Part by Han Kang: A Haunting Novel of Friendship, Memory, and Hidden History
About the Book
We Do Not Part is a breathtaking novel by Nobel Prize winner Han Kang that weaves together friendship, grief, and a long-silenced chapter of Korean history. It is a book that stays with you long after the final page, asking quiet but urgent questions about memory, loss, and what it means to truly bear witness.
From the Back Cover
One winter morning in Seoul, Kyungha receives an urgent message from her friend Inseon, who lies hospitalized after an accident. Inseon begs Kyungha to travel to her home on Jeju Island to feed her beloved pet bird, who will otherwise die. Kyungha takes the first plane out, only to be swallowed by a violent snowstorm on arrival. As she pushes through the cold toward Inseon’s house, she has no idea what darkness waits for her there. The long-buried story of Inseon’s family surges into light, in dreams and memories passed from mother to daughter, and in a painstakingly assembled archive documenting a terrible massacre on the island seventy years before.
