The Land in Winter Paperback: A Booker Prize Shortlisted Novel by Andrew Miller

About the Book

The Land in Winter follows two young married couples on neighboring farms in England’s West Country during the brutal winter of 1962-63. As snow buries the countryside, old wounds and quiet secrets rise to the surface, testing what love and marriage actually mean when there’s nowhere left to hide.

Short Summary

Doctor Eric Parry and his wife Irene live a life that looks steady from the outside but feels distant from within. Across the field, Bill and Rita Simmons are learning that farming is harder than either of them expected. As Britain's coldest winter on record closes in around them, both marriages begin to crack under pressure neither couple saw coming. Readers walk away with a deeply human portrait of love, isolation, and the quiet ways people survive hard seasons, both literal and emotional.
