The Will of the Many by James Islington – Hierarchy Series Book 1 Paperback
About the Book
The Will of the Many drops you into the Catenan Republic, a Rome-inspired empire that stays in power by draining a person’s strength, focus, and drive, what the empire calls Will, and funneling it upward to those in charge. At the center of it all is Vis, a fugitive hiding under a false name inside the empire’s most elite academy, searching for answers while trying not to get caught.

Readers get pulled into a richly built world where power is currency and trust is dangerous. The story follows Vis as he navigates the Catenan Academy, hiding his identity while chasing the truth behind his family's death. Expect layered political scheming, a magic system built around sacrifice and control, and a lead character whose choices carry real weight. It's a slower burn than some epic fantasy, but the payoff in the back half of the book is worth every page.
