Kiss Of The Basilisk Paperback by Lindsay Straube – The Viral Romantasy Everyone Is Talking About
About the Book
Kiss Of The Basilisk is the first book in the Split or Swallow series, a fantasy romance that dropped onto BookTok and has not left the conversation since. It follows Temperance Verus as she enters a dangerous matchmaking competition where basilisks train young women in seduction, and everything after that spirals into a story readers say they finished in one sitting.
About the Author
Lindsay Straube is a writer based in Portland, Oregon. She built her following by self-publishing this story in installments online, where it grew into a Kindle Unlimited sensation before landing traditional publishing deals in the US and UK.
Who Is This Book For?
This one is for adult readers who love spicy romantasy, love triangles, and morally grey love interests. If you enjoyed the buzz around Fourth Wing or Sarah J. Maas style fantasy but want something bolder and far more explicit, this book was written for you.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is Kiss Of The Basilisk appropriate for teens?
No. This is an adult romantasy with explicit sexual content, so it is recommended for readers 18 and older only.
Is Kiss Of The Basilisk a standalone or part of a series?
It is Book 1 in the Split or Swallow series, followed by Between Two Kings, so the story continues beyond this paperback.
What kind of romance trope is Kiss Of The Basilisk?
It combines a love triangle, forbidden romance, and monster romance elements, with a heavy focus on mentor and student style tension between Tem and Caspen.

Tem competes for the prince's favor while bonded to Caspen, a basilisk shifter who is anything but the safe choice. As their connection deepens, so does the danger around them, and Tem gets pulled into palace secrets she cannot walk away from. Readers get a fast paced blend of fantasy world building, competition tension, and unapologetically steamy romance. Expect banter, betrayal, and a bond that changes everything for Tem by the final page.
